Post 2: Boys vs. Girl

For your blog this week, I'd like you to consider our reading of William Golding's Lord of the Flies and think about how life on the island would have been different if the children who were refugees there had been girls rather than boys.  Please think about their personal interactions, their systems of leadership, food gathering, obtaining shelter, etc. Imagine how the story of Lord of the Flies would have changed. Responses must be appropriate!

Write at least 200-300 words.  Remember that MS Word has a word count feature as well as spell check and grammar check.  Please skip a line between each paragraph and be sure to sign each post.

Life on the island would have been very different if the children who were refugees on the deserted island on the Lord of the Flies were girls. It would be different in a lot of ways.

One way in which it would be different if there were girls stranded on the island instead of boys would be their system of leader ship. In the Lord of the flies, all the kids voted on there leaders. But if it were girls I think that they would all work together instead of just having one leader. I think this because girls would have a harder time then boys would survive on a deserted island. They are not as strong as guys and most guys like to deal with the outdoors, unlike girls.

Another way in which it would be different if it were girls stranded on the island instead of boys would be there way of gathering food. This would be different because in Lord of the Flies the boys made spears and hunted down there own food, which was very gory. Girls don’t like gory things so they would have just eaten fruit and berries growing off of trees.

If life on the island had been consisted of just girls instead of boys this time, a lot of things would change dramatically. For one girls honestly do have a bit more of better leadership so things wouldn't get to far out of hand, but considering they are girls there would be a lot of drama. Girls would continue to talk behind each others backs until they would start fighting.

I also think life on the island would change shelter wise, because the girls would obviously be weaker than the boys because boys are generally stronger than girls. The girls may be a little smarter by gathering food and such buy not really hunting it. The girls just would not have the capability to catch up to the animals or even find animals. I believe the girls would become very impatient while hunting and then they would start to nag.

Even if the girls were successful with all the complications the boys had, the girls would still be terrified of the beast that the boys believed in. Overall though i think the girls would not do anywhere's as good as the boys had done especially for the amount of time the boys have been on the island.

If girls were stranded on the island I think the entire story would be different. Boys and girls are similar in many ways but they're also different in a whole bunch of ways too. Girls are usually neater and more organized and boys are usually more athletic and outdoorsy.

I think the girls would develop some sort of system and all work together unless there was some drama going on. They'd all realize the importance in keeping a signal going unlike Jack and his boys. I don't think that the girls would split apart like the guys did because girls would realize the importance of having each other. They wouldn't waste their time trying to hunt down boar so they would just eat the fruit in the trees around them. I think that the girls would also be able to set up the camp better than the guys. The guys in the book were just trying to get it done as quickly as possible and they weren't all working together on it. The girls would help each other out on the shelters so they would be sturdier and more effective.

The bad thing about girls is the amount of drama between them. I don't think they'd kill each other but they'd give each other dirty looks and not talk to each other. This could cause problems in the long run because communication is very important when trying to survive together. Also it could create many separations within the group. Instead of them splitting in two like the boys, they could split into three or four different groups. But on the other hand there might not be any drama and the whole group would stick together and help each other which would be much more effective then being in different groups. Also I think the lust for power would be greater with the girls. Everybody wants to be the popular one when it comes to girls and with popularity comes support and if you have enough support you can become the leader.

  4. William Golding's novel, Lord of the Flies, explains how boys stranded on an island would behave over time. In this particular story, the boys lose their sanity as the days pass by. A controversial topic would be if instead of the children being male, they were female.

In my opinion, if it were girls deserted on the island, less chaos would be present. In the novel, the main dispute was over power and who should control the power. I think that instead of a single ruler, women would instead form a council and vote upon all actions in a civilized manner. This would be until starvation was an issue. The girls would have difficulties with hunting and killing animals for food. But I don't think they would wage wars over prioritizing the importance of hunting and signaling a rescue, as the boys did in Lord of the Flies.

The girls would also have difficulties making shelters, as they would try to over complicate them. They would lack the ability to make the shelters simple and effective for their primary use. However, I feel as though they would maintain their sanity for a much longer time, they would keep each other in check. They would form a more democratic form of government, rather than voting on a chief, like in the novel.

These are a few of the differences I feel would be found if the refugees were female in the story. However, the discussion has logical viewpoints at both ends, and controversy will always be present in such cases.

  6. In Lord of the Flies life would be very different if the island was full of girls and not boys. I think the girls would do things a lot differently then the boys did.

The girls wouldn’t fight over land or who got what on the island. They would be arguing that their hair is getting greasy and they can’t wash it with shampoo and conditioner. All of the girls would eventually get on the same cycle, and then there would be so many hormonal girls on the island they would eventually kill each other because any little thing would annoy them.

A lot of the girls would also be incapable of building a shelter, making or finding food and also killing food. The girls wouldn’t be strong and they couldn’t lift trees to build the shelters. They also wouldn’t have enough strength to plunge a spear (if they had the knowledge to make a spear) through a pig.

Girls are good at making food, but we couldn’t hunt the food. Girls are also nurturing if someone got sick or hurt. Girls wouldn’t fight for power and we wouldn’t argue about the stupid things that don’t matter. In the end girls would die, but we would try really hard to live.

  7. If the island was full of girls I think there would be major drama. The girls would fight about who would be in charge. They would be to dumb to know what there doing because they would be worried about everything else. They might be smart enough to make a fire but probably not.

But I think girls would find some other way to get off the island. But at the time the girls go through there menstrual cycle there will be world war 3. But I think the girls would go there separate ways in groups. They would see who could survive longer without killing each other. But I don’t think girls would last on the island for a little a while till they get tired of each other. But then I also think the island can be very bloody with all the girls.

A group of girls can build a shelter and gather food together. Maybe the same conflict in Lord of the Flies with the boys would happen with the girls. There will be many girl fights on the island so I don’t think it’s a good idea to have an island full of girls unless you want war. I mean it can happen with boys to but girls are 10x worse than boys when there’s fights. This is my opinion on an island full of girls it is not a good idea at all.

If girls had to be on the island this time instead of all guys then life would be different, because there are some girls that don’t like to get dirty or like to go camping or anything, then there are girls that none of that bothers them at all. There would be a lot of drama because some of the girls don’t want to hear the others complain because they don’t want to be there anymore. There would be a lot of fights. Instead of guys being there being dirty or anything doesn’t bother them.

Another thing is that guys are stronger than girls and they can carry a lot more things, some of the girls wouldn’t want to help and build something so that they would be able to have somewhere to sleep. They would rather sit somewhere and just watch or lay on the beach while everyone else is doing all the work. When it comes to the time were they have to go and hunt for their food some girls may know what they are doing and others may not. Then again they might all work together and get things done faster than they really think.

One other thing, when it comes down to trying to get rescued then all the girls may work together to get off the island. Most of the girls may not know what they have to do in order to be rescued, that involves in making a fire and a lot of girls know how to build a fire but some don’t know how to keep it going from the rain and the wind blowing it would be hard. That is what life would be like if it was all girls instead of boys.

  9. If it were girls instead of boys on the island in The Lord Of The Flies they would do things very differently then the boys.

One thing that would be different is girls probably wouldn’t become crazy enough to start killing each other. Girls probably wouldn’t fight as much for power either. They would listen to everyone’s ideas and try to figure out things together.

Girls also might not split up very easily because they would all be scared and wouldn’t know what to do. They might end up splitting into groups because someone would say something about somebody else and there would be a lot of drama.

Girls would have a lot of trouble surviving on an island because they wouldn’t know how to build shelter or anything. All they would have to eat was fruit because no one could kill any animals. Girls can also be organized and more practical about things then boys so they might be able to figure out some way to survive.

I think if girls were stranded on an island they would be able to survive for a little while, but they would probably all end up dying. Girls need more things then boys so it would also be more difficult for the girls to survive.

  10. Life on the island would have been much different if the children were girls instead of boys. There would be many differences.

One difference would be that the girls would probably work together better and not be fighting over who is the leader. If it was girls in the book, then they would all make decisions as a group. They would work together to do things such as building shelters, gathering food, and keeping a fire going.

Another difference would be that girls would not be killing each other. They wouldn’t become savages like the boys in the book. But, this may cause a problem as they search for food. They probably wouldn’t be able to kill a pig or other animal for food.

Another difference is that girls tend to be more dramatic than boys. The girls may be over dramatic when they initially realize that they are stuck on the island. Their communication may not be the best. They may blame each other for things that go wrong.

One more difference is that girls would be saner. The boys in the book begin to go a little insane, but I believe that if it were girls, then they would probably stay sane for a much longer time.

If there were girls stuck on the island instead of boys, there would be many differences. Either way, they would have problems.

  11. If it had been girls in the island in Lord of the Flies instead of boys, they either would have stuck together with no revolts, or they all would have died right off the bat. Girls can be more loyal than guys, in my own opinion, and if they see that one person is taking charge they will follow that person. But if one person thinks that they could take charge and be a better ruler, for lack of a better term, then the girls will divide and everyone will probably wind up with serious scratches and bruises.

But another thing is the shelters. If the girls are all used to living in the city and have never been in the forest in their life, then they will probably not have a clue how to build a good hut for shelter. But if they have been camping then they will build a good shelter.

Were there to be little kids on the island with the girls, the kids would probably be doing little things. They would probably be getting small twigs to start a fire, gathering fruit for food, getting some palm fronds from the forest for roofs for the shelters, basically anything that they can do to save the older girls from doing too much and wasting energy on stuff that others could be doing.

Overall, girls would probably have survived better than boys on an island. Girls don’t immediately go for fights if they have a problem with someone and boys will get in fist fights to solve said problem. Girls will work together even if they don’t want to, and, thanks to the idea of alpha males, boys will try to prove that they are better than another boy. I would rather be on an island with country girls than city girls.

  12. There would be very many differences if there were girls on the island instead of boys. Some things would better and some things would be worse.

If there were girls on the island, one thing that would be different is the food they would eat. The boys were all for blood and gore. Most girls don’t like that kind of stuff so they would probably eat more fruit and herbivorous food. That would mean less protein in their diet. The boys were busy hunting the pigs on the island while the girls would most likely be searching for berries and other food.

Another thing that would be different is the shelter on the island. Girls are generally weaker than boys physically. Girls wouldn’t be able to lift the trees that go into making a sturdy shelter. The girls might still have a shelter, but the boys’ shelter is probably more sturdy and stronger.

A final thing that would be different on the island if there girls instead of boys is the amount of drama on the island. Girls are generally involved in much more drama than boys. The girls might split up into more groups earlier than the boys and make them weaker overall. To survive on an island, you have to work together with the people on the island with you.

The differences that would be present if there were girls on the island instead of boys is that some are for the better and some are for the worse. If there were to be girls instead of boys, there would definitely be changes on the island.

if it were girls on the island instead of boys i think there would be more drama than anything. like all the girls would fight over which coconut is the hottest.they would also be worried about personal problems like there hair and nails (things that are not important.) they would die

  14. The lord of the flies’ novel displayed a group of boys being stranded on an island and eventually lost their minds. Girls are different than boys in many ways. But they are similar as well. I feel things would have been much

I think this novel would possibly have less violence. Like the struggle over power would have been less intense. This would prevent many deaths in the long run because boys were dying in jacks struggle over power. I believe this would work until there was a lack of food on the island, and then chaos would occur rather fast. The girls wouldn't be as skilled in hunting so things would go bad fast. Many deaths would happen when no food could be caught and everyone started to fend for themselves and break apart as a group.

The island would also include more drama. Women tend to fight more often than the other gender. This could lead to more trouble with disputes. Still there would be less violence on the island in general. Therefore the island would be easier to take in when the children were found. Also the island wouldn’t be a polluted mess. This would be a better overall experience.

In Lord of the Flies, if it were girls on the island instead of boys, things would change dramatically. When it comes to the way they would interact, I think that the girls would have a lot more drama on the island. Girls tend to talk about other girls a lot so there would be cat fights on the island like a reality show. Since they would be on the island for a long time they would eventually get their period at the same time and would all be hormonal and want to kill each other. When it comes to having a leader on the island, girls would all work together more than the boys did because they wouldn’t have the power struggle that Jack and Ralph did in the book.
When it comes to getting food, I think that they would be good at gathering berries, nuts, and things like that. They wouldn’t get a lot of nutrients though because most girls in this situation wouldn’t be able to hunt like the boys did. But the things they could gather would probably taste good because most girls can cook better than guys. The girls wouldn’t build much of a shelter either since most girls don’t build things like that. They might have a little tent or something made out of the leaves. If the girls thought there was a beast on the island like in the book, instead of trying to kill the beast, they would just run from it.
If girls were on the island instead of boys, it would be a big difference. Girls and boys both have things that one can do better than the other. But in the end I’m sure they wouldn’t last as long as boys and less people would survive.
    ~Arianna

  16. In “The Lord of the Flies” a group of male refugees get stuck on a deserted island. In the book the boys lose their sanity and start killing one another. One question is if a group of girls were stuck in a similar situation how would they react.
There are a few things I believe the girls would do better than the boys. I believe that the girls wouldn’t go as far as killing one another. There would be a lot of drama between them, but not enough to beat one another to death. Another thing I think the girls would handle better is the concept of being saved. The girls would most likely keep a signal fire or anything they can to get the attention of potential help. One final thing I think girls would do better with is the need of power. The girls probably wouldn’t split into different groups just to try and gain more power. They would most likely stick together and try to survive.
There are also a few things I believe boys would do better than girls. Boys would obtain food easier because they are stronger and could kill animals. They could also use their strength to climb trees to get fruit. Another thing I believe boys would do better is making camp. Most boys in the real world enjoy going out into the woods and building forts from sticks and such. This would help them on the island because they would already have experience.
All in all it would be a struggle for either boys or girls to survive on a deserted island. There would be problems in either situation no matter what happened.

  18. In Lord of the Flies things would have been different if it had been girls on the island rather than boys. Girls and boys share a variety of differences, some of these reasons being for the better, others for the worst.

If there had been girls on the island instead of boys they may have had a better system of leadership. In Lord of the Flies the boys elect Ralph leader. He became the only leader and had a lot of power. I feel that if girls were on the island they would have elected more of a staff or group of leaders or they would have had no leaders and just made decisions all together and made compromises.

If there had been girls on the island instead of boys, girls may not have been so fast to split the group. In Lord of the Flies the tribe splits because Jack gets sick of Ralph and jealous. Girls may realize that it is easier to survive as a conjoined group rather than splitting and having rival groups. Girls also may have not been driven into anarchy and started killing each other like the boys did in Lord of the Flies.

If girls were on the island instead of boys many things would change and be different. It is all about point of view though because not all girls and boys are alike. Also girls and boys have many different personalities. Some boys like to fish and hunt and some boys like to play video games and stay inside. Same thing goes for girls so the argument of what would change has many variations.

  19. If there were girls instead of boys on the island I think the novel could have gone two different ways. The girls could easily get along, listen to each other’s ideas and not strive for power like Ralph and Jack in Lord of the Flies or the girls could all disagree, be dramatic, jealous and angry, die quickly and not survive on the island.

Another difference is that girls are averagely weaker than boys. This would affect several things on the island like how food was collected and all around how long they will survive. If a girl is weaker than a boy and cannot perform as well, when it comes to something like hunting, she won’t be able to get as much food as a boy may be able to produce. As a result of the lack of meat, the girls may have to collect berries and herbivorous foods but in Lord of the Flies foods like this made the boys sick.

The age of the children that were on the island were six to twelve years old. At this age girls are more mature than boys and are also smarter. This would change the way that they went about things. The girls on the island would not be as haste to make decision whereas the young boys on the island did. Girls would be more likely to think things through before they did something that would affect everyone on the island.

If Lord of the Flies was about girls being stuck on a deserted island instead of boys, it would change a lot of things in the novel. Some would be good while some would not be for the worse.

If the characters in the book The Lord of the Flies were girls, things would have gone very different. Boys and girls play things out differently and have different strengths and weaknesses.

When it came to leadership, I think that girls would work better together. I believe they would break themselves up into groups with specific jobs and they would be ok with it. I don’t think they would have a demand for one specific leader and they would just agree to have everyone be on the same rank. Even the girls would agree on not having a ruler, I think they would argue about other things. Girls start drama much more than boys and it would start to eventually break them up.

The boys would have the upper hand when it came to building shelters and gathering food. I think the girls’ shelters would be built poorly. I’m not saying the boys’ forts were amazing, I just think that they would have had stronger structures. When it came to gathering food, all the girls would be able to get would be fruits. Girls are not very good hunters, so I think they would just have to live off fruit for a long time.

Overall, I think that the boys would last longer than girls. I don’t think that the girls would be able to survive long enough for rescue. They wouldn’t have the proper nutrients and all of the drama would slowly rip them apart.

There are many reasons why Lord of the flies would be different if it were girls deserted on the island then boys. Their way of surviving would be different as well as their way of leadership, and way of getting rescued.

If girls were deserted on an island things would be very different compared to boys. One major way would be the way the decide to survive. Most girls would not go out and hunt animals for food. They mostly would find berries and nuts for their main food supply. Also most girls are not very strong so their shelter would be poorly built.

Another major different would be the way they lead. I think that they would end of splitting into little clings. They would be a head cling where everyone else is afraid of them. Girls would end up killing each other before boys because with girls there is so much drama with girls. Especially when cause girls usually don't like each other so that would different make a bigger problem.

There are so many reasons why girls on a deserted island would be very different then with boys.

In the book Lord Of the Flies all guys were trapped on an island. I think It would of been different if it was all girls instead of guys on the island.

In the book they voted for who they wanted to be in charge of everything, I think in reality it would not matter and the girls would stick together no matter what.

Another thing that could be different from the girls being in the island instead of guys is how they hunt. Some girls don't know how to hunt or look for food other then looking for food in the fridge. I think the more country type of girls would survive the longest because there usually the ones that know how to hunt and trap food. In Lord of the Flies the boys made spears to kill things such as the bore, I wouldn't mind doing that. Some girls might have a problem killing animals but if its to save your life you might just have to do it.

Another difference is that in the book the boys try to make shelters but they kept on goofing off. Yea everyone likes to have fun at times but I think the girls would take things more serious.I think the girls would actually try and make some sort of shelter. Some girls actually care about where they sleep or what they sleep in.

  23. The book Lord of the Flies would be much different if it were a group of girls on the island instead of a group of boys. Girls may not fight about power like the boys did, or viscously attack and bite each other to our death, but girls do make petty drama over things that don’t matter. We aren’t as physically as strong, but we do have advantages in other ways. Girls tend to hang-out in groups, so we could split up more evenly and leave the other ones alone, unlike the boys who broke off in to one huge group and one really tiny group that didn’t stand a chance against the other one. Women are more willing to compromise than guys. Guys tend to be strong headed and only listen to their opinions. Girls on the other hand are more willing to try to make things work depending on the girl.

Girls aren’t as physically strong as boys, we wouldn’t be able to last as long. Boys are a lot tougher and more rugged compared to girls. They would be able to find food and think more wilderness like how to keep the fire going. Girls wouldn’t be able to think of ways to make the shelters and fire work. Girls are meaner to each other and they would probably fight to all of our deaths. So I believe boys would last longer on the island compared to the girls.

If the boys from Lord of the Flies had been girls, many aspects of the story would be different.

The girls may have been more friendly towards one another. I believe that the girls would have been more organized than the boys. They would have chosen a leader and stuck with the chosen leader rather than splitting off into two tribes as Jack had. I also believe that the girls would have built a system of leadership which had more than a single person in charge. For example, perhaps the girls would have created a system of branches so that no single person could have more power than the rest.

Another way that the girls may have operated differently is in the manner they gathered food. They may have created groups for gathering fruit, meat, and other food. Some girls may have been hunters and some girls may have been trappers.

One more belief that I have is their organization of shelter being better. I believe the girls would have put forth more effort to make their living area better. Perhaps they would have built sturdier shelters and made a way of purifying water. I also believe they would have built the shelters in safer place such as off the ground in the trees.

If girls replaced the boys of Lord of the Flies many outcomes of the story could have changed and life on the island may have been more enjoyable.

  25. If the boys from lord of the flies were girls the whole story would be different. I believe that the girls on the island would have been more prepared because they would have packed way more stuff than needed for vacation. Therefore they would have enough clothes for a month if they were not rescued. They probably woulld not be able to build a stirdy shelter out of natural materials. They would have to eat fruit all the tioime because they would not kill an animal, they would feel bad for it. Also i believe that the girls would be able to last longer than guys because they would be more friendly and cooperative with eachother. Or they could be some country girls and trap and hunt. They would also be able to build a shelter out of natural resources. They would last longer because they would be able to get meat instead of just eating fruit. If they were girls on the island instead of boys it would have been a very different story.

I believe if there was girls instead of boys on the island there would of been more casualties, but a lot more drama. Girls are way more organized than boys. I do not know what they would do about food because most girls don't like guts or gruesome things. All they would be able to eat would be fruit and vegetables. As I said girls are more organized, so their shelters would be more organized. All girls work together if they want to. They would go everywhere together, this could be a bad thing or even a good thing. Girls main priority would to be rescued such as the boys in the novel. If the girls got into a fight it would never end and end up killing each other. Girls would have groups for each priority, gathering, building, keep the fire going, hunting, and possibly fishing. If the girls were level headed then there would be no deaths, but if they didn't agree on anything they would not be able to last as long as the boys did in The Lord of the Flies. -Jacob Tarbox

  27. If there were girls stranded on the island I feel like there would not be as many problems as there was when it was all boys.

Many people believe that males are the superior race, and they have good evidence to support this, but many people have not seen my aunt Jill. The lives of the people on the island all depends on the type of girls stranded there. There could be girls like Aunt Jill who will just take the role of a man, there could be preppy annoying girls who no one likes, or there could be stereotypical housewives. If there’s a mix of Aunt Jill like girls and housewives they will be fine. You can throw some preppy girls in there but no one really likes preppy girls and the Aunt Jill’s will probably end up beating them to death.

If there was an equal balance of Aunt Jill’s to housewives they would all live happily on the island. The Aunt Jill’s would do all the heavy lifting and gathering of foods and the housewives would keep the shelter in order and prepare the food.

Overall I’d much rather live on an island with a bunch of women to take care of me than with a bunch of boys who just want to hunt and have fun because as long as the women do their responsibilities there will be no fighting

I do not doubt that if girls were on the island instead of boys the whole situation would have turned out very differently. Being the lone man who lives in a house of women I could make a pretty good inference as to how everything would have played out.
Firstly I believe that the girls would be better prepared considering they keep everything they need with them at all times. It is kind of creepy actually how you can always rely on a girl to have what you need in her purse, but that is just supplies wise. I will not make any sexist comments but statistics show that men tend to be more adventurous and capable of grasping a sudden change in their environment as apposed to women who would spend time questioning it. Seeing the girls I know I also believe they would not have the intent, or rather the qualities to kill something for food up until a certain time of the month (also a fact). Girls are however more rational than boys and would probably come up with better ideas for survival.
Though I do hate to say it I can guarantee that after a few months the death count would be exponential and to put frankly very scary.

  29. I think if there were girls as the refugees rather than boys the island would go downhill very quick. They would be very girlish about eating everything on the island because the hate eating things that you have to kill. Their leadership would be very terrible. They would not be good at hunting or gathering food they would be good at making sandwiches. They would make a good shelter because they hate being cold, wet, and uncomfortable. The story of lord of the flies would have changed because they would not have been rescued because they don't know how to start fires and they would kill each other because they are backstabbers. They would also die because they would not eat the animals they killed if the even killed any. They would also die because if someone came to rescue them they would fight over who gets rescued or gets to date the guy who rescues them. Also if a couple of them ran away the other girls would not care if she died or not. only some would go to get her. A lot of the girls would just let her die in the jungle. Also hey are not strong and they would not be able to pick anything up that is heavy.

If the book Lord of the Flies had girls in it instead of boys, everything would be completely different. They girls would do better things. But they would also not be as good as the boys in others.

The girls would most likely all have equal power, instead of just one leader. If there was a decision to be made they would vote on it. Most girls do not like listening to what others tell them to do, this would bring equality to the group. This is a much better way than how the boys did it. They boys gave one person all the power. When they did this it caused conflicts between the group.

When the girls started to run low on food and to do the hard physical labor, they would start to have problems. When the boys arrived at the island, they immediately started to explore. The girls would be nervous about exploring. Also with hunting the girls would have trouble. For thousands of years, men have been the hunters. The boys had trouble with hunting in the book, so most likely the girls would also have difficulties.

In my opinion I think the girls would survive. They may not be as physically prepared, but they would use their brains. The boys and girls would be pretty much equal.

  31. If the children on the island were girls instead of boys then there would be many changes to the story. This is because most girls are not as apt to adjust to life in the wild.

I think that the girls would have a problem deciding whose leader. They would probably argue over who is better at being a leader and take a day to decide who would be in charge. After the leader is chosen, they would probably make rag-tag shelters that would barely stand up and not do a good job of keeping out the weather. The girls would also have difficulty with food. They wouldn’t be able to hunt very well and if one girl did come across a pig, she probably wouldn’t have the heart to kill it. If by chance the girl did kill it, then there is the problem of cooking it. The girls would be able get the fire started, but keeping it going is a different story. They would probably try to use wet and rotten wood instead of dry and seasoned wood.

Most girls just don’t like the idea of having to survive on your own. This is probably because they aren’t very good at it.

  32. If the young children on the island were girl and not boys the story would be 100% different. This is because I believe girls would be more about the drama and wouldn't know what to do in life threatening situations.

The main problem girls would have is getting to scared in a life threatening situation. For example, if they saw a "beast" like the boys did in the story, girls would probably run far away from there and be scared. Unlike the boys who actually went on an adventure to see if the "beast" was real.

Another problem would be whether or not the girls got along. In my opinion, if the girls don't like each other it would be just as bad as the boys were. Their would be lots of violence and deaths. On the other hand, all it would take is one girl, who is friends with two groups of girls that hate each other, to bring them together.

  33. If the book Lord of the Flies had girls instead of boys stranded on the island there would be many changes to it. I think that the changes would be different depending on where the girls lived before they were on the island.
One change would be that there would probably be more drama. Almost every girl has drama. In Lord of the Flies after a while of being on the island, the boys get a little crazy and with girls... it wouldn't be too good. There would be the cliques like we have in school. There would be many problems between the girls, and many cat fights.
Another problem would be that the girls probably wouldn't survive long. Some may be able to survive (if they were good at outdoorsy stuff) but most probably wouldn't(probably city gals). They wouldn't be to good at thinking to start a fire with someones glasses, or think to hunt for pigs. There would be more complaining too.I don't think many girls would want to hunt for pig and skin it or chop it up to cook it.
If William Goulding put girls in his story it would more dramatic, and possibly funny from some of their stupidity or how scared the are.

  34. In the novel"The lord of the flies",some boys get stuck on a deserted island and lose their sanity and start to kill each other.I think that if girls were to be stuck on an island, thiongs would be different.
I think that the girls would mostly argue who would be the leader. I think this because girls tend to like being in charge and feel better than everyone else. On the other hand, some girls dont really care.Another thing girls would fight over would be about who is doing what. Some girls are really lazy and wouldnt want to build huts all day or run around the woods looking for food. In my opinion, girls would like to hunt for food like they did in the book because we don't like gorey and gruesome things. Also if the girls were to get into an arguement or a fight, i do not believe it would stop. The girls would probably keep going until someone were massively injured or maybe even dead.
Girls are very different from boys because girls are not very civil to eachother. Another reason why the girls wouldn't last on the island as long as boys because some girls do not know how to make fire or weapons like the boys do.
I do not think that girls would last on a deserted island longer than boys will.

  35. On an Island full of girls it would be different because they cry, whine, complain, moan, and backstab each other. I think they would kill each other differently than the boys did. They would join clicks and be more secretive. They also would be more afraid of stuff, like the dark and noises. The reasons for all these assumptions are my sisters. I do think that the girls would wind up arguing and fighting over stupid things like the way they talk and the way they walk. They wouldn’t be civil; instead they would argue and fight. They would not build as much as the boys did. Their only hope for building would be if there was a tomboy who likes to build stuff. She would be their only hope. Girls would get jealous and they would torture each other more psychologically than physically, which makes them even grumpier than they normally would be. There would be more backstabbing, they would break off into groups and they would be yelling, fighting, and whining. There would be more hatred toward each other, but it wouldn’t be much different than the boys on the island. These are just some of the ways that girls would be different than boys.

If the boys in William Goldings “Lord of the Flies” were girls it would be way different. I think that there would be more drama. Possibly their wouldn’t be any leader.
If their were girls instead of boys the girls would probably get mad at each other as soon as they get on the island. I think that everyone would be blaming everything on each other. Being honest their would probably be a leader but the leader wouldn’t care and would want to have fun all the time just like Jack and his tribe.
They would eventually split up and go their own ways. They would have to find food for their own selves. At one point some of them would become a tribe and get food and make a shelter. For girls it would be easy to sleep very close to each other. The island would be a lot more cleaner than what the boys did. The girls wouldn’t be able to hunt unless that they are tomboys. Eventually one or two will die and all of the girls would start to be nice to each other and some would still be mad but they would work it out and work together. Yes it would be different from the boys, but the girls would eventually end up the same.

  37. If the kids on the island were girls instead of boys I believe that they would make more ideas instead of arguing a lot like Ralph and Jack did. I also believe that they might not be able to kill a pig, unless some of them grew up hunting and stuff. I also believe that they would have built a little better shelter because girls are able to get more details into their living spaces then boys. I also think that the girls wouldn’t split up into two different groups and try to kill each other because I don’t think that they would be able to kill the other group, unless they really ticked them off. This is what I think would happen if girls were trapped on the island instead of boys.

In " Lord of the Flies" the boys were the main characters. They argued and fought and had an idea of killing each other. Things would have been different if the book had only girls trapped on the island.
Things would be different because girls are not like boys. Girls have more drama and it depends on who they are friends and not friends with. Girls tend to have a very short anger problem. They tend to get fustrated with each other very easily. The girls would probably end up arguing all the time. The girls would end up getting into fights and taking things really far. By the end of the day whoever they fought with would end up friends again by the end of the day. Girls can argue and get into fight s and then be fine after it happens. Girls have different ways then guys and are different in many ways.
